The Sunshine Canyon Landfill, owned and operated by Browning-Ferris Industries (BFI) of California, is considered by many environ- mentalists to be one of the best maintained, state-of-the-art facilities in the industry. BFI’s parent company, Allied Waste, Inc., is the second largest integrated waste management company in the United States and for more than three decades has provided a wide range of residential and commercial waste disposal and recycling services to Los Angeles communities.
